Description Frankincense essential oil derived from Boswellia Serrata is steam-distilled from the resin of a deciduous tree native to the dry forests and rocky hillsides of central and northern India, where it has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Known in Sanskrit as Shallaki, the resin has long been prescribed for its anti-inflammatory and restorative properties — both internally and topically. Harvested by hand through traditional tapping methods, the hardened resin tears are prized for their high concentration of boswellic acids, which give this species its particularly potent therapeutic profile. In skincare, Boswellia Serrata is regarded as one of the most effective botanicals for aging, inflamed, or damaged skin — working at a cellular level to encourage regeneration, restore firmness, and quiet chronic inflammation. Distinct from its East African relative Boswellia Carterii, the Indian species carries a slightly greener, spicier character — grounded equally in ancient ritual and modern efficacy.
